

Harry McDowell. Jr., age 81, went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 28, 2018. He died peacefully with family and friends by his side. Harry was born in Birmingham, Alabama, to Harry McDowell, Sr. and Mary Bowen McDowell, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his three sisters, Jan Vowel, Pat Hazelrig, and Carol Posey. He is survived by his wife, Jackie Hartline McDowell, and his children, Timothy Allen McDowell(Connie); Daughter, Shana Leigh McDowell; grandchildren, Nicholas McDowell, Michelle Rhodes, Megan Mobley(Michael), Jonathan Hyatt(Gena), and Michael Hyatt(Miranda). Great-grandchildren, Amber and Summer Rhodes, Karis, Harper and Scarlett McDowell, Dylan and Cohen Hyatt, Jordan, Morgan, Jake, and Jackson Hill, Caden, Callyn, and Cash Mobley. Harry attended The University of Alabama. He was a CPA with Dent, Baker, and McDowell for a number of years. He then founded McDowell, Dipiazza, Feige, Smith P.C. firm, later returning to Dent, Baker&Co. He was also a partner with longtime friend, Harold Ridgeway, in Shelby Steel Fabricators, Vincent, Al. and then with Nusteel Fabricators, Childersburg, Al. Harold Ridgeway became the power of attorney for Harry following a diagnosis of dementia several years ago. Prior to that time Harry loved playing billiards and watching Alabama football, but work was his passion. Harry also attended Cathedral of the Cross and Huffman Assembly over the years and at his death was a member of Parkwood Church of God. The family would like to thank all the sitters from Home Instead for their care, and also Alacare nurses and assistants who had recently begun caring for Harry under hospice. Visitation for Harry will be from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 2, 2018 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Al., followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 2:00 p.m. with burial in Southern Heritage Cemetery.
