Hazel graduated from Tuscaloosa High School in 1959 and Dental Hygenist school at Bessemer State Technical College. She was married to Jack D Barnes, Sr. on June 10, 1961.
To know Hazel was to know laughter, creativity, and unconditional love. Her heart was as big as Texas, which made her so very generous. She was wonderfully zany in the best possible way, embracing life with a vibrant spirit that made her unforgettable. If you were close to her, you played the "bag game."
Hazel’s family was her greatest joy, and she passed down her humor, resilience, creativity, and love to her children and grandchildren. Though she is gone from our sight, pieces of her live on in each of us, and her light will continue to shine through the generations she helped shape.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, Chaslee and Minnie Pearl Hardy, and her brothers, Chester Hardy (Buddy) and Allison Dawson Hardy (A.D.). She is survived by her son, Jack Barnes Jr. (Lisa); daughter, Toni Barnes Brown (Jim); and grandchildren, Jackson, Tori (Jack), Zachary, Amber, and Dalton (Toni).
Hazel will be laid to rest on Thursday, June 25, 2025 at Southern Heritage Cemetery, 475 Cahaba Valley Road, Pelham, AL 35124. The graveside service will begin at 2:30 p.m. CST.
