Hugh Don Hull

Hugh Don Hull, age 84, of Pelham, Alabama, died Saturday, August 12, 2017. He is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Barbara Baker Hull, his parents, Horace and Hilda Hull, and his brother, Ed Hull. He is survived by his sons, Greg Hull (Dana) of Hoover, Baker Hull (Jan) of Helena; grandchildren, James Hull (Melissa), Andrew Hull (Lauren), Shelby Hull, and Caroline Hull; great-grandchildren, Nickolas Hull, Sawyer Hull, Ella Dovell; very special friend, Ida Carroll and her family. Hugh Don was born on March 24, 1933 in Bessemer, Alabama. He graduated from Hueytown High School, and was a veteran of the US Army, serving during the Korean War. After being employed at US Pipe in Bessemer, he worked as a machinist in the # 1 Machine Shop at American Cast Iron Pipe Company in Birmingham until his retirement in 1995. He was an active member of Valleydale Church, where he served as a greeter, and previously was a member of Central Park Baptist Church. In addition to the many friends that he made throughout his life, Hugh Don leaves behind a host of dear friends at the Pelham YMCA, Bluff Park United Methodist Church, bridge groups and Anderson Travel. A celebration of Hugh Don's life will be held at Valleydale Church (2324 Valleydale Road, Hoover, AL 35244) on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive visitors from 12:00-2:00 on Thursday prior to the service. Burial will be on Friday, August 18, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. at Southern Heritage Cemetery. Memorials in lieu of flowers can be made to Big Oak Ranch, PO Box 507, Springville, AL 35146.
