

On Tuesday, November 5, 2024, Jack Lane McDuff, Jr, loving husband to his widowed wife of 54 years, Jackie, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away at 82. He was surrounded by family and dear friends who loved and adored him.
Jack's greatest joy was his family. His sense of humor and servant's heart blessed all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his sister, Jan Pannell (Don), two daughters, Jana McDuff Hagan (Paul) and Eleanor Ashley McDuff Clarke. His beautiful grandchildren also survive him, Andrew Lane Hagan (Kathryn), Stuart Rogers Hagan, Cameron Peterson Hagan (Mallory), Fielder MacDuff Hagan, Matthew Keller Cacioppo, and Cara Clementine Cacioppo, as well as four great-grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Hagan, Andrew Lane Hagan, Jr, Grace Embry Hagan, and Ann Curtis Hagan.
Jack graduated from Auburn University in 1967 and retired from the City of Birmingham as Chief Civil Engineer in 2010. He was an active member of the Saint Andrew's Society of the Middle South and served as president in 1983. He began serving as a volunteer firefighter for the North Shelby Fire District in 1979 and continued his service for thirty years. Jack was awarded Volunteer of the Year by the Alabama Fire College in 1990 and Volunteer of the Year for the North Shelby Fire District in 1998. He also served as a First Responder and was a part of the Jefferson County Emergency Management Agency and Alabama Task Force One (AL-TF1).
While those who loved him will miss his humorous spirit, his family and friends will continue celebrating him and all he contributed to this world. He encouraged every family member to do great things, and his humor and joy of life will forever be remembered and honored.
Visitation will be Friday, November 15, 2024 from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama, followed by A Service of Remembrance for Jack at 1 p.m. at Ridout's Southern Heritage. The gravesite committal service for immediate family will be at Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to one of two organizations: CJFS CARES or Libby's Friends.
