James Michael Bozeman April 15, 1960 - May 15, 2020

The “life of the party,” James Michael Bozeman, known as Mike, unexpectedly went through the veil Friday, May 15, 2020. His loud laughter still echoes in the minds of those who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years JaNae; and children Jonathan (Joy) Bozeman, Jessica (Skylar) Knight, Jason Bozeman, and Jennifer (Johnson) Leigh. Also survived by his mother, Sara Bozeman; his sister, Miki (Mike) Lety; and grandchildren, Eva, 10, Jacob, 3, and Samuel, 1. He is preceded in death by his father, James “Buddy” Bozeman, who certainly was anxiously preparing to receive him.

Mike, 60, was a resident of Helena, AL, for 33 years, but was born and raised in Montgomery, AL. He graduated from Lowndes Academy as Valedictorian. Baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the age of 12, Mike became more involved in church during his college years thru the social activities.

After graduating from Troy (State) University with a Bachelors in Computer Science with a minor in Business, Mike served a mission for the church to Leeds, England. Two and a half weeks after returning from his missionary service, his prayers to meet a worthy companion were answered when he met JaNae at a church dance. The sparks flew as they did cartwheels across the dance floor together. They were married January 4,1985.

He worked as a computer analyst and became self-employed when he created Alasoft in 1991. His focus was in networking for small businesses, and was instrumental in connecting the first computer lab at Helena Elementary.

Mike’s business evolved over the years and he continued under the name Optiwave Communications until the time of his death. He was a member of the business fraternity Delta Sigma Pi and had a passion for Alabama Football, church basketball, and traveling with JaNae.

Always willing to serve, he held various callings in the church including a Bishop for five years, a Young Single Adult advisor for eight years, Church Service Missionary for the Pathway Education program for two years, and was most recently co-teaching with JaNae an early morning seminary class for high school age students for one year.

Brother Bozeman was one of the first friends I made in Alabaster Ward. Kimi introduced me to the Bozeman's who immediately welcomed me with open arms. I love all the hugs and smiles that Mike always gave. He was one of the funniest, kindest, and most caring people I have ever met. <3

I remember Mike working at the Temple. When I first started working in the Birmingham Temple & Pam hadn't yet moved from Texas, Mike showed me around & his kindness stood out. We were instantly friends.

When he came to church in Clanton with his folks, we were both surprised because we hadn't put together our mutual relationships to his folks.

Mike remains a steadfast example to me. He led his family through the passing of Buddy & the relocation of Sarah. He handled the Temple shift with such humility & love for others.

I don't have more words to express my deep sense of shock & loss, for myself, but especially for this family & his Ward.

Happy trails Mike, look forward to seeing you again on the other side of the veil.

We didn't spend a lot of time with Mike, but one day, we saw his daughter, Jessica, in the temple, and I said to Dorthey, she would be a wonderful daughter-in-law because of who her parents are. We saw his love for others on a regular basis, his joyful and exuberant zest for life, and found it an honor to know him. We were/are grateful to know he was our son's father-in-law. We know of the Saviors love and know we will see Mike again in the next life.

A tremendous missionary companion from Oct thru December of “83. We lived on 6 Royd Street Avenue in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England. He made the best breakfast of grits.. To this day I still like grits when I get the chance to have them. Blessed with a great singing voice, super basketball player, great sense of humor. So happy I got to see him again at a missionary reunion in 2009, even tho it was for just one evening. I stood on holy ground that night being around him, In the words of former coach John Wooden, who would say, “Make each day a masterpiece.” I know Mike did that. May his family know he touched peoples lives wherever he went. I’m so grateful for those two months we shared together! I know he is resting peacefully, while also sharing the glorious gospel message . I know that if his family makes right choices, they will be with him again. I know it is difficult now, but it is a plan of happiness, thru our Savior. I know he is resting in peace.
