"Jimmy" was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Gilmore, and his parents, M.E. Gilmore and Mamie Coley Gilmore. He is survived by his daughter, June Gilmore Martin (Eddie); his son, James M. Gilmore, Jr. (Wendy); grandchildren, Tyler Martin (Alex), Amanda Hagood (Scott), Rachel Martin, and Allie Gilmore; and great-grandchildren, Penelope Martin, Eli Martin, Phoebe Martin, Novie Hill, Baker Hagood, and Landon Hagood.
An Alexander City, Alabama native, Jimmy graduated from Woodlawn High School, Birmingham, and earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Alabama. His professional career spanned 37 years with Liberty National Life Insurance Company until his retirement.
Jimmy attended and taught Sunday School at Fairfield Highlands Baptist Church in Midfield, Alabama. His favorite pastimes included hunting and fishing, and he was an avid golfer. He loved getting to know people and encouraged a lasting relationship with everyone he met.
The family will visit with friends on Wednesday, September 23, 2026 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., followed by a service at 12 noon to celebrate Jimmy's life. Private burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery, Birmingham.
