

James was born on March 26, 1933, in Jemison, Alabama, to Vollie and Essie Glass. He graduated from Jemison High School and went on to build a successful career in engineering, dedicating many years of service to Hubbell Electric Company Power Systems.
James enjoyed 57 years of marriage with the love of his life, Bettye Handley.
James was a member of Green Valley Baptist Church, and he lived his life guided by Christian values. He found great joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially spending time on the golf course, tending to his garden, and cheering on the Auburn Tigers.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Vollie and Essie Glass, and his sister, Sue Cole.
He is survived by his loving wife, Bettye Handley Glass, and his brother, Douglas Glass, along with other cherished loved ones who will miss him dearly.
Visitation will be held at Southern Heritage Funeral Home on June 10, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm followed by a graveside service at Pleasant Field Cemetery, 109 Rob Key Rd, Parrish, AL 35580 at 2:30 pm.
