

James Ervin Smith, age 93, of Hoover, Alabama, passed away August 28, 2020. He was born on October 8, 1926. He attended Ensley High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Forest Management from Auburn University. He was married to Ann Mims Smith on December 8, 1951. James had a career in Forestry for U.S. Steel for 32 years, followed by 26 years of Spanish Prime. He was a greeter and member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church. He had a passion for fishing and was an avid woodworker.
He was survived by his Son, Mike Smith (Janet); Daughters, Susan Schenk (Jim), and Amy Wynn (Bruce). Grandchildren, Michelle (John), Abby (J.D.), John (Whitney), Katy (David), Mary, and William (Kelsey), and 11 Great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Ann Mims Smith; his parents, Gilbert Fram Smith and Lela Wood Smith; one sister, Jean Watson.
A visitation will take place at Southern Heritage Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. followed by a chapel service at 2:00 p.m. officiated by Bill Johnston. A graveside service will follow after the chapel service at Southern Heritage Cemetery. A live streaming of the funeral service will be held on Southern Heritage Funerals Facebook Page at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Comfort Care Hospice.
