Jim started his career at Sealmaster Bearings sweeping floors in the warehouse and rose to be the top motivation and education trainer in his field. Jim excelled in all sports including winning the Golden Gloves in boxing, two World Championships in fast pitch softball, and ran 112 marathons. He loved life and lived it to the fullest by traveling around the world. He was a member of Mountaintop Community Church in Birmingham, AL.
Jim leaves behind his wife, Jaye Ottinger; his brother, Duke Ottinger (Lydia); daughter, Linda McFarland; son, Jamezell Ottinger (James); son, Keith "Baby Boy" Ottinger (Karina); daughter, Heather Olivet (David); daughter, Kellie Ogden; and grandchildren, Justin Ottinger (Christi), Jordan Ottinger, Ali Ottinger, Amanda Warner, Tamara Warner, Chris Warner, Maxie McFarland (Laura), Ryan McFarland (Keryn), Jay Dylan "JD" Olivet, Piper Olivet, Kai Olivet, Ash Olivet, Molly Kate Olivet, and Jackson Ogden. Survivors also include Jim's great-grandchildren, Camden McFarland, Sawyer McFarland, Emersen McFarland, Adlee McFarland, Kaylee Ottinger, Madison Ottinger, and Jayce McFarland.
Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Nellie Ottinger; his father, Bonnie Ottinger; and two brothers, Ingram Ottinger and Sylvain Ottinger.
Visitation will be 2-3 p.m. on Monday, October 22, 2018 at Ridout’s Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, AL, immediately followed by A Celebration of Jim's Life at 3 p.m. at Ridout's Southern Heritage Chapel, Pelham. Burial will be at Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham. Pastor Bill Elder will officiate.
