

After graduating from the Georgia College for Women in 1952, Jane worked as a librarian at public schools in Georgia, North Carolina, and Texas. She retired in 1991.
In Birmingham, Jane was a resident of the Greystone community until 2015. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, and volunteered for many years with various causes including Meals on Wheels and UAB Hospital.
Jane was predeceased by her husband, Hoyt Brogdon; her parents, S.C. and Doris Mitchell; and two brothers, Shat Mitchell (Farise) and Tom Mitchell.
Survivors include Jane's daughter, Andrea Lowery; two sons, Barry Brogdon (Ann) and Clay Brogdon (Kandie); grandchildren, Patrick Brogdon (Tiffany), John Brogdon (Monica), Colleen Witherspoon (Chance), Clayt Brogdon (Michelle), Shane Brogdon (Jennifer), Whitney Adkins (Chris), Ty Brogdon (Lauren), and Allie Upton (Travis); 13 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Jo Thompson (Martin).
A private memorial service to celebrate her life is being planned by the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the American Heart Association.
