Janette was born on May 9, 1944 in Gary, Indiana to the late Abe and Ona Ralph. She graduated from Calumet High School and later attended Florida College and Western Kentucky University where she received her Bachelor of Science.
Janette was married to the love of her life, Wayne, for 20 years until he tragically passed away in February of 1991. She spent her years since then as a devoted daughter, daughter-in-law, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to all who knew her. She is survived by one brother, Carol Dane Ralph (Pat) of Boone Grove, IN; her daughter, Rebekah Jayne Francis Barnes (Jeff) of Lake Wylie, SC; her son, Terry Francis (DewAnn) of Chelsea, AL; and her grandchildren, Peyton Francis (Emma), Jared Barnes, Jillian Francis, Tyler Barnes, and Jamison Francis. Aside from her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Clifton Ralph and Fred Dan Ralph, and her sister, Betty Lois Eldridge.
Janette was a devout Christian all her life and her faith and relationship with Christ defined her life. She was an active Bible class teacher in her younger years and spoke at numerous women’s retreats and workshops in Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, and Tennessee later in life. Over the years numerous preachers, friends, and strangers were guests in the Francis home thanks to her hospitality.
Janette had a diverse working career, including time as a secretary in the steel mill as a young adult, a stay-at-home mom during her children’s younger years, serving as the state manager of Welcome Wagon International, selling real estate, and working in other administrative positions. She retired as the Executive Administrative Assistant at Grandview Pharmacy in Connersville, IN and would have told you it was her most rewarding work next to being a homemaker, because she worked with her sister’s family at their family run business.
Janette’s favorite holiday to spend with her family was Thanksgiving. The family finds it appropriate to remember her in that time of year. A memorial service will be held November 21, 2026 at the Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, AL. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. The celebration of life will begin at 2:00 p.m.
