Jerry Dennis Hocutt

Jerry Dennis Hocutt left this earthly world to be with Jesus on July 9, 2019. He was born in Fayette County, AL in May, 1938. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Linda Phillips Hocutt; three children, Barry (Jana), Brad, and Babbi Shotts (Mike); five grandchildren, Reade (Jessica) and Trace Hocutt, and Ashlynn, Grayson, and Cheslee Bowman; and one great grandson, Graham Hocutt. He was preceded in passing by his mother Marie Hall Hocutt, father Dennis Jackson Hocutt, and grandson Benjamin Phillips Hocutt.

Jerry was raised by his mother in Bremen GA. He was a standout 4 sport athlete at Bremen High School where he won All State honors. This earned Jerry a scholarship to complete his education at Auburn University, being a proud member of the 1957 National Championship team. As a freshman he was on the team, but always reminded us that he got to practice “a whole lot”.

After college he taught school and coached briefly in Villa Rica, GA before beginning his 34 year career with Lennox Corporation where he received their top honor, the “L Award”. Along the way he lived in different cities around the Southeast making many friends and memories before settling in Birmingham. Jerry was an avid golfer and loved to compete. He and Linda loved their yard and keeping it in top shape, receiving the City of Alabaster Beatification Award multiple times. Jerry loved his family and always reminded them to “Take care of your gear, and your gear will take care if you”. He will be greatly missed.

It was a real pleasure to know and work with Jerry. During the eleven years I worked with him at Lennox, I found him to be honest, serious, funny and motivated. Jerry liked to win and he did what he needed to do to win. Jerry’s greatest victory was when he married Linda and he let everyone know it. Let him Rest In Peace. May God give comfort to Linda and the family.

I am so sorry to hear that Jerry passed away. I had the privilege of getting to know him through the unfortunate passing of Ben. I remember his love for Ben being so strong. He was like a rock that wouldn’t leave that house in Pell City. I know that he was greatly affected by Bens death. It brings me great comfort to know he is in heaven seeing his grandson again. That Jerry is in 0 pain, has a new body, and he is with Our Lord and Savior. He was a wonderful man, Grandfather, and husband. My heart goes out to all of you..I am praying for your family in this most difficult time.
