Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit. Jeremiah 17:7-8

He was born on January 4, 1933 in Alturas, Florida to Dorsey Jelks “Doss” and Gladys (Murphy) Brookins, the 5th of 9 children. Raised in Grady County/Cairo, Georgia, Jimmy graduated from Cairo High School and attended Jacksonville College and graduated from Florida State University (BS Psychology) and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry). Jimmy’s family brought him great joy. He was a hands-on father and role model. His sense of humor made day-to-day family life entertaining and his children and grandchildren fondly share many stories about PaPa and his influence on their lives.
Jimmy was reunited in death with the love of his life, Mildred (Strickland) Brookins.
