

JoAnne (Jody) Alexander Allen, 90, of Montgomery and Hoover, Alabama passed away December 27, 2024. She is preceded in death by her parents, Oleta and Ward Alexander and her loving husband, Ira Fincher Allen, Sr. She is survived by her children, Ira Fincher Allen, Jr (Steve) and Alexandra Allen Hackett (Ed); grandchildren, Edward Hackett (Ginny) and Alexandra H. Neff (Scott); great grandchildren, Teddy and Tommy Hackett.; as well as her sister, Patricia Sowell; brother, Ward Alexander, Jr. and many nieces and nephews.
She had a wide circle of friends dating back to her days at the University of Alabama where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority: she was a member of Christian Women’s Club in Montgomery for many years and President for one of those years; a member of First United Methodist Church in Montgomery; and had a blast working at Rosemont Gardens Gift Shop for close to ten years. Then onto Riverchase United Methodist Church in Hoover where she helped with Sunday School and countless volunteering; She helped run the Children’s Program for Bible Study Fellowship; and Bell Ringing for the Salvation Army at Christmas. She enjoyed volunteer work in many areas of her community. She also maintained lifelong contacts with friends (known as “family” in the military) made through the Air Force when she and Finch lived in Tacoma, Washington, Honolulu, Hawaii, Frankfurt, Germany, Wiesbaden, Germany, and Montgomery, Alabama. She loved being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and was dearly loved by all her family.
The family will receive friends on January 9, 2025 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with a celebration of Jody's life to follow at 11:00 am at Southern Heritage Funeral Home. Burial will conclude in the adjoining cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to one's favorite charity.
