Mark is also survived by two daughters, Lindsey (Blake) Kersey and Anna (Tyler) Schnell. He was a beloved Pops to Noah (7), Anna Reese (5), and John Mark Kersey (2), and June Schnell (3). He had fervently prayed for and was eagerly awaiting the arrival of baby boy Schnell in September. Additionally, he is survived by his older brother, Tim (Sally) and twin brother, Paul (Dani).
Mark was a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ who lived out his faith in every aspect of his life. He selflessly and joyfully served the Lord through his church, Shades Mountain Baptist, as a deacon, Sunday School director, and in numerous mission opportunities. For 27 years he served in the student ministry, knowing the importance of passing on the Christian faith to the next generation.
Following his love for Jesus, Mark’s greatest passion and joy was being a husband, father, and grandfather. While he left this earth much sooner than we anticipated, his impact and legacy will be felt by his family and friends for decades to come.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 6 from 6-8 p.m. in the Conference Center at Shades Mountain Baptist Church. A graveside service will be held Friday, May 7 at 10:00 a.m. at Southern Heritage Cemetery, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 12:00 p.m. in the Worship Center at Shades Mountain Baptist Church.
The family is humbled and grateful for the outpouring of love and support. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the missions offering at Shades Mountain Baptist Church, “Make Jesus Known”.
