

John graduated from Murphy High School in Mobile, Auburn University, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (NOBTS), and Regent University in Virginia. At NOBTS, he met his wife, Cornelia.
John served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force with active duty during the Vietnam War. He served the Lord as a Baptist minister for several years with multiple churches in Alabama, Georgia, and Virginia. Most recently, he faithfully served as an Elder at The Church at Old Town in Helena, Alabama.
John, whose first love was for Jesus Christ, was a diligent and passionate student of the Bible. He was a devoted husband who cared for his wife until his final breath, and was a devoted father and best friend to both his son and daughter. He loved his family dearly, and enjoyed traveling with them, watching Auburn football, cheering for the Atlanta Braves baseball team, and viewing "Wheel of Fortune" on TV.
John is survived by his wife, Cornelia B. Turrittin; son, Matthew W. Turrittin; daughter, Kathryn C. Turrittin; sisters, Betty Jo Flowers, Linda Mullenix, and Martha Morrill; brother, William Turrittin; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Turrittin; mother, Josephine Turrittin; infant brother, Robert Turrittin; and beloved family cat, Sweety.
Visitation will be at The Church at Old Town in Helena, Alabama on Monday, June 8, 2026 from 10-11 a.m., followed by A Service of Thanks to God for John's Life at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Southern Heritage Cemetery in Pelham, Alabama.
