

Johnny was born in Siluria, Alabama, on September 10, 1952. He graduated from Thompson High School and went on to complete two years at Jefferson State Community College.
On January 19, 1973, he married the love of his life, Mary “Susan” Penhale. They shared 53 cherished years together.
Johnny proudly served his country in the United States Army as a member of the 101st Airborne Division, also known as "Screaming Eagles." His service was an important chapter of his life, instilling in him a strong sense of discipline and resilience. He was also a proud member of The Kingsman. Following his military service, he built a long, successful career as a welder for numerous companies.
Outside of work, Johnny found joy in visiting the Great Smoky Mountains. He loved hiking and camping and was drawn to the beauty of nature.
Johnny is survived by his beloved wife, Susan Penhale; his daughter, Brandi Nicole Penhale; his son, Jon Brandon Penhale; and his siblings, Patti Dixon (Warren), Michele Penhale, and Terry Penhale.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Southern Heritage Funeral Home on February 9, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
