

Joseph “Joe” Leon Aven III passed away on January 2, 2026. He was born on December 14, 1963, in Birmingham, Alabama, and grew up surrounded by family, friends, and music.
Joe graduated from W. A. Berry High School in Hoover, Alabama, where he was an accomplished trumpet player in the “Pride of the Mountain Band.” His passion for music stayed with him throughout his life, often filling his home and gatherings with the sounds he loved. Joe also found joy in cooking, sharing meals, and bringing people together. He had a gift for making friends wherever he went, and his easygoing spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Leon Aven Jr. and Betty Real Aven (Chaple).
Joe is survived by his daughter, Taylor Caldwell, and her mother, Donna Caldwell. He is also survived by his brothers, Dick Aven (Chris), Adam Aven (Leslie), William Aven, Pete Chaple (Mitsi), Andy Chaple (Ann), and Matthew Chaple (Kelly); as well as his sisters, Kellye Bowers (John) and Alicia Aven. Joe also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at On Tap Sports Café – Liberty Park, 11967 Liberty Parkway, Vestavia Hills, Alabama 35242. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and honor Joe’s life.
