DEFLORA, JOSEPH “SCOTT” of Athens, AL, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2025, at age 60, surrounded by his loving wife, his two children, and his son-in-law after a brave and courageous fight against pancreatic cancer. He was preceded in death by his father Anthony Thomas DeFlora and his sister Anne Marie DeFlora. Scott was a 1982 graduate of Thompson High School. He married his best friend, Trent Bedford DeFlora on November 12, 1988. They were together for 43 years, and married for over 36 years. Scott was an avid soccer player who also loved working in his yard, playing golf, and kicking the soccer ball around with his grandkids. He and Trent loved to spend their time traveling to Gatlinburg, Tennessee, both on their own and with their children and grandchildren.
Scott, aka “Pop” loved to drive his lawnmower and go-karts with his oldest grandson, Mills, and loved to tell everyone how proud he was of his son, Alex, a firefighter with McCalla and Calera Fire Departments. He dedicated 30 years of his career working for Buffalo Rock Pepsi in Birmingham, before retiring and getting into the natural stone business. After raising their family in Pelham, AL, he and Trent moved to North Alabama in 2021 to be closer to their grandchildren.
Scott is survived by his wife Trent, as well as his two children; Ashley DeFlora Shields (Josh), and Joseph Alexander DeFlora; grandchildren Mills Joseph, Baker Scott and Addison Brooke Shields; his mother Rebecca C. DeFlora, and his sister Hope DeFlora, as well as many family members and friends who loved him dearly.
