

DOLCE, JOSEPH DOMENICK Visitation for Dr. Joseph Domenick Dolce, age 82, will be held Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham from 5pm to 8pm. A memorial service will be held at South Highland Presbyterian Church in Birmingham at 11am with a visitation starting at 10am. Dr. Dolce was born May 28, 1929 in Brooklyn, New York and passed away on January 14, 2012. He is survived by his wife Judith Dolce and his sons, Dr. Jeffrey J. Dolce (Mary Jane); Stephen P. Dolce (Maria); grandsons, Nicholas, David (Partner Francine Salas and daughter Lanie), Andrew, and Joseph; brother Robert H. Dolce (Doris); and nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Lily Dolce and his brother Frank E. Dolce from Burlington, NJ. Dr. Dolce attended Burlington High School in NJ; University of Alabama; Harvard Medical/ Dental school; and Alabama School of Dentistry. He served as a Captain and Dentist in the United States Air Force then practiced dentistry in Birmingham for 50 years. He was actively involved in the School of Dentistry and had a lifetime fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry. He was an active member in the American Dental Association and the Society for Advanced Dentistry. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a generous and gracious friend to many, and also had a deep desire for knowledge and a passion for life. Among his many interests were his love for sailing, horses, sports cars, classical music, and photography. But his greatest passion was flying. Dr. Dolce flew for Angel Wings Transport. He was a member of AOPA, and the Quiet Birdman Association, as well as a pilot, flight instructor, and instrument flight instructor. Throughout his life he enjoyed the company of many dogs and was a member of the Birmingham Kennel Club, the American Kennel Club, the English Setter Kennel Club of America, and Great Dane Kennel Club of America. He was greatly loved and will be dearly missed. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice Advantage of Birmingham or the Alabama Alzheimer's Association
