Judy was the daughter of William Howard Keith and Lillian Elizabeth Lee. She grew up in Irondale, Alabama and attended Shades Valley High School. After graduating high school, Judy attended Samford University earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a double major in Elementary Education and Spanish. She later received a Master's Degree in Elementary Education from The University of Alabama, Birmingham.
Judy began her teaching career at Brookwood Forest Elementary (Mountain Brook) and Cherokee Bend Elementary (Mountain Brook). She then paused her career to focus on raising her children. In 1982, Judy returned to the education profession teaching at Lakeside Baptist Church. In 1985, she accepted a position at Riverchase Middle School teaching social studies and world history. Judy remained at Riverchase for 19 years until she retired. Judy had many close friendships with her fellow teachers at Riverchase that continued through her retirement.
Her favorite subject to teach was Ancient Egypt. She loved her students, and always went above and beyond to try to present lessons in a fun and interesting way. Judy played a fundamental role in improving the social studies program at Riverchase. Year after year she would present new materials and methods of teaching that were aimed to help spark enthusiasm in her students. Her endless passion for teaching was recognized in the 1992-1993 school year as she was awarded Teacher of the Year.
Judy was also an amazing homemaker who loved her husband Clyde deeply. She was very proud of her three children and supported them in all of their endeavors. Judy loved spending time with her four grandchildren and cherished any opportunity to spend time with them. When her grandchildren were young, Judy loved snuggling and reading them stories. Her reading voice was full of expression and loved by all.
Judy was an avid Crimson Tide fan and enjoyed watching football. She also enjoyed watching baseball, spending many hours at the baseball park supporting her son Craig. Judy had a green thumb and loved taking care of her plants and flowers. She was a fantastic cook, and one of her greatest joys was to have all her family around the table to share a meal and laugh and talk.
Judy was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church. She had a servant’s heart and demonstrated her faith by selflessly helping others. She was a good listener and had a special way of providing encouragement and advice. Judy always put the needs of others before herself. She will be greatly missed, but her kind, selfless, and loving spirit will live on through her family who adored her.
Judy is predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Clyde Brashier. Clyde and Judy met at age 4 and began dating in high school. They were married in 1966. Judy is also predeceased by her parents, William and Lillian, her sister, Peggy Keith Hare, and her son, Keith. Judy is survived by her children, Leigh Brashier Mitchell (Steve) of Hixson, TN and Craig Hunter Brashier (Kimberly) of McKinney, TX; her grandchildren, Lily Grace Mitchell, Stevie Mitchell, Hunter Brashier and Hannah Brashier, along with many nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate and honor the life of Judy Brashier will be held Monday, June 30, 2025, at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama.
