Julia Kathryn Richardson

Julia was born and raised in Gadsden, Alabama. She graduated from Gadsden High School with the Class of 1948 and attended the Alabama College for Women (later named University of Montevallo).

On June 1, 1965, she married Hubert Odis Richardson and began her long-time career as a housewife and homemaker. She and Hubert raised their daughter and three sons to learn about, know, and walk in close fellowship with God.

Julia was a member of New Hope Church near Indian Springs for 57 years. She found many opportunities to serve God in the church's children's ministry and adult choir.

"It is wonderful to share every day of your life with God, the good days and the days that aren't so good," Julia wrote. "It is a special fellowship. He comforts me when I'm sad; He humbles me when I am too proud; He strengthens me when I am weak; He punishes me when I sin; and He forgives me when I fail Him. But throughout it all, I never doubt His love for me, and knowing that I will spend eternity with Him, I do not fear death."

Julia was predeceased by her husband, Odis; her parents, Forney McCuen and Myrtle McBride McCuen; and one son, David Odis Richardson. Left behind to cherish memories of her are her daughter, Melanie Richardson Miles (Bruce); sons, John William "Chip" Richardson (JoAnne) and Andrew McCuen "Andy" Richardson (Stacey); and grandchildren, Becky Kennelly, Pam Richardson-Martin, Jennifer Brown, J.R. Miles, Liz Miles, John William "Will" Richardson, Jr. (Kaitlin), Samuel David "Sam" Richardson, Daniel McCuen Richardson, Ethan Browder Richardson, Emily Richardson Given (Clark), and Julia Caroline Richardson.

Julia is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Taylor Patton, Tori Patton, Brianna Ash, Ali Catherine Koenig, Tim St. Pierre, Brian St. Pierre, Robert Brown, Adam Brown, Millie Richardson, Tripp Richardson, Alex Given, and Andy Given.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate Julia's life on Friday, September 11, 2026 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama. Visitation will be from 12 noon to 1 p.m., followed by the service at 1 p.m. Burial will be at Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham. Julia's pastor, Donny Acton, will officiate.
