

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of our sister, Karen Martha Conklin. Born on April 20, 1942, in Baltimore, Maryland, Karen passed away on February 13, 2026 of a sudden illness leaving a void that can never be filled. Karen lived most of her life in Homewood, Alabama.
Although legally blind, she was determined to live life to the fullest. As a young child, she attended specialty classes for the blind in Woodlawn and later graduated high school from the Talladega School for the Blind. Most of her adult life she worked in the food industry and loved meeting and talking to customers.
Karen was a very independent person who enjoyed her friends, family, football team and pets. She touched the lives of all who knew her. Her generous spirit and graciousness to all she met will be remembered. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and determination that lives on in all of us.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Charles F Conklin and Carolyn M Conklin, as well as her siblings, Charolyn Guin and David Conklin. She is survived by her brothers, Charles A Conklin and Michael J Conklin, and her sisters, Patricia E Gilliam, Joanne F Conklin, and Catherine M Sabines . In addition, she leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11 am, March 3, 2026 at Southern Heritage Funeral Home. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery at 1:30.
