Karen Lindgren Fincher

Fincher, Karen Joanne, (née Lindgren) passed away at UAB Hospital, Birmingham, on June 18, 2022. The eldest child of the late Raymond and Lorraine Lindgren, she was born in Chicago on June 29, 1945, and raised in nearby Elmhurst.

After graduating from the University of Dayton with a degree in Communications, Karen worked for several Chicago-based publishers, including Time, Inc. In 1978, she moved to Birmingham to work as Production Manager for Decorating Craft Ideas magazine, published by Southern Living.

In 1988, Karen married John Fincher, the love of her life. After postgraduate study in nutrition, she worked as a Clinical Dietitian at the Coosa Valley Medical Center.

Karen enjoyed the company of many friends, who appreciated her humor, affection, and practicality. She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church.

Following the death of her husband John in 2012, she is survived by brothers, Robert (Sharon), James (Mary Ann), and Richard; sister-in-law, Linda Broadaway; brother-in-law, Charles Fincher; and several nieces and nephews.

A private service will be held at Southern Heritage Cemetery in Pelham, Alabama.

In lieu of flowers, and knowing of Karen’s fondness for giraffes, those wishing to make a contribution in Karen’s memory are encouraged to donate to the African Wildlife Foundation or a natural conservation charity of their choice.
