Kenneth Weedon Moore, age 87, passed away on Saturday, May 23rd. He was able to spend his final days in his home with his family and beloved dog, Khloe. He greatly appreciated the outpouring of love from family and friends and frequently commented on how blessed we are to be surrounded by so many kind and wonderful people.
Kenneth was born to Amy and Clarence Moore in Memphis, Tennessee, where he lived out his childhood through early adult life, alongside his twin sister, Patricia, and older brother, Stuart. Kenneth attended the Campus School for grades 1 – 9 at Memphis State College and graduated from Central High School in Memphis. He attended Memphis State College, earning a degree in Accounting. Kenneth was proud to serve in the United States Air Force Reserve from 1951 – 1954.
Kenneth married Cornelia Ann McCaa in 1954. Shortly afterwards, he began a successful 37-year career with Sears, Roebuck, and Co. as an accountant in Memphis. Sears moved the young and growing family to Tampa, FL, Mobile, AL, Marietta, GA and finally to Vestavia Hills, Alabama, where they settled and made their home.
Kenneth’s passion for community service and learning led him to join and serve many organizations such as the Boy Scouts of America where he served as Scout Master for many years, Toast Masters, the Botanical Gardens where he became a master gardner, woodcarving groups, and writing groups.
He and his wife, Cornelia, were able to spend his early retirement years pursuing common hobbies and traveling. They were proud and wonderful grandparents. Cornelia passed away in April of 2007, leaving her beloved husband of 53 years. Through his grief, Kenneth was an inspiration to all in how he grieved, leaned into his faith and learned to find joy in life after such sadness and loss.
He joined Trinity United Methodist Church in later retirement years and became an active member of the Friendship Sunday School Class, in which he served as treasurer for many years. He truly enjoyed fellowship with others through the Trinity Travelers, Bible Studies, Wednesday Night Dinners, Men’s Prayer Breakfasts and other church programs. He was also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. As long as he was physically able, he attended church services and Sunday School most every Sunday morning with his dear friend, Peggy Miner.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Cornelia Ann McCaa Moore; his parents, Amy Weedon Moore and Clarence Eugene Moore; his sister, Patricia Ann Moore Orban, older brother Stuart Graham Moore, and brother-in-law Burwell Boykin McCaa
