Larry Robert Grass, Sr., passed away peacefully on March 31, 2025, in Birmingham, Alabama, after a long illness. He was born on June 5, 1945, in Charlotte, North Carolina to parents John and Mary Grass.

Larry graduated from Carson Newman and Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, and served as a pastor before becoming an insurance broker and financial planner in the Nashville, Tennessee area. He married his wife, Sallie Boger Grass, in 1994, and they enjoyed traveling and living in Nashville, Colorado, and the Alabama coast before moving to Birmingham. Larry loved fishing, sharing stories, and woodworking, carving walking sticks for family and friends. He was very involved in the recovery community and glad to be of service to so many.

Larry is survived by his wife, Sallie, his sister, Brenda Grass Nash, and brother, Dennis C. Grass, along with son, Larry Robert “Bobby” Grass, Jr. (Leslie) and their children, Taylor, Alexis, Parker and Keira; and son, Jason Grass (Kelli) and their children, Bella and Sophia. He is also survived by step-son, Mark Hogewood (Catherine) and their children, Luke, Anna, and Mary; step-son, Jay Hogewood (Karrie) and their children, Beck and Mariah; and step-daughter, Lynn Hogewood (Shannon) and their children, Grayson and Garner.

As Larry requested, the family will have a private celebration of his life sharing happy memories and good times.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Larry Robert Grass, Sr.’s memory to the Shelby County Humane Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.
