Laura Louise Brabec, a long-time resident of Staunton, Illinois, and current resident of Pelham, Alabama passed away at Columbiana Health and Rehab in Columbiana, Alabama, on March 8, 2024, at the age of 97.
She was born on November 8, 1926, in Edwardsville, Illinois to the late Daniel and Ethel (Sparks) Harmon. After graduating from Edwardsville High School in Illinois, she spent many years in retail sales before eventually opening a restaurant named “Laura’s” in Staunton, Illinois. She enjoyed catering various events. In her spare time, she loved to read, play cards, and work in her garden, and later in life she enjoyed volunteering at HIS Station, a Christian based thrift store.
In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Albert Brabec; her former husband and father of her children, Edgar Hering; and her son, Donald Darwin Hering, who passed away at birth; and her grandson, Nicholas Doulas. Her seven sisters and three brothers also precede her in death.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Deborah (Rodney) Russell; her son, Daniel Hering; her grandchildren, Neely (Mark) Clayton, and Rhonda (Darryl) Roy; along with her great-grandchildren, Noah Clayton; Micah Clayton; Brynnley Roy; and Cameron Roy.
The memorial service will be held on March 19th at 11:00 am at The Lutheran Church of Vestavia Hills 201 Montgomery South Vestavia, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to be made to the Lutheran Church of Vestavia Hills- Project Hope or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
