

Verne served two years in the United States Army to a post near Bordeaux, France. He was last employed by a railroad products manufacturing company in Montgomery, Alabama. During this time, he met and married Ms. Mary Kirby.
Verne faithfully attended Lakeside Baptist Church, where he served and a greeter. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; father, Eldo Louis Simonin; mother, Lavera Leona Simonin; son, Richard Lee Simonin; and daughter-in-law, Linda Janience Roden Simonin.
Verne leaves behind his daughter, Renee Simonin Metcalf (John); daughter-in-law, Ginger Dyals Simonin; step-daughter, Nancy Kennedy (Jim); together with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends, and neighbors.
The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to Verne’s neighbors for their friendship and support, to precious caregivers Carolyn Lassiter and Sonya Hammell for their love and compassion, to longtime friend Wilson Hauck for his encouragement and Waffle House runs, to the volunteers that faithfully brought Meals on Wheels, and to his church family. He looked forward to each visit and loved you all.
Funeral services will be Monday, March 16, 2026 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama, with visitation from 10-11 a.m. and the service at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham. Dr. Greg Corbin will officiate.
