Lawrence "Larry" Ammons, 72, was called home to heaven June 4th after complications from cancer surgery. Larry was a long time employee of BE&K and other engineering firms. His expert designer/draftsman skills were sought after by many engineering companies. After work hours and in retirement, Larry was an avid bowler competing in leagues or teaching young kids the art of bowling. He also had a love for golf and softball. He spent many years playing/coaching softball and was known about town as that "one handed pitcher". Larry leaves behind his wife of 45 years, Brenda; his daughter, Kristi Averette (James); his sisters Patti Middleton, Pat Hinton (David), Tracy Garner (Ed); His brother Bucky Hirschmann; his sisters in law, Kathy Hurt (Don), Teresa Phillips (Kerry); his grandchildren, Alicia (Brandon), Patrick; his great grandchildren Brali, Grace and Jacob; his nieces and nephews, Jay (Sara), Timothy (Stephanie), Jeromy, Leigh (Andrew), Jason (Cindy), Russell (Christina); great nephews, Ethan, Preston and Peyton. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, in-laws, several cousins, his brother in law, and his grandchildren Amber and Frank Masters. He has now reunited with them in heaven and his tired, worn body is now healed.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 7 at 10 am, First Baptist Church Helena, AL with the service immediately following at 11. Graveside service follows at Helena Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations maybe made to the CLC Fund or Children's Ministry at First Baptist Church Helena.
