Born on November 18, 1936, in Brighton, Alabama, to William and Annie Mims, Lois was raised with strong Christian values and a heart devoted to service. She attended Bessemer High School and was a faithful member of Metropolitan Church of God, where she served with joy and dedication—especially in her beloved role as a Sunday school teacher.
On January 14, 1966, she married the love of her life, the late Larry Adcock, in Birmingham, Alabama. Their union was marked by faith, commitment, and a shared love for family.
Lois found joy in the simple, meaningful moments—reading, journaling, teaching, yearly trips to Mentone, and especially, time spent with her loved ones. Her wisdom, warmth, and quiet strength were gifts to all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her father, William Mims; her mother, Annie Mims; and her husband, Larry Adcock.
Lois is survived by her daughter, Lori Kirkpatrick (John); son, Lamar Adcock (Stacey); and stepchildren, Reeva Adcock and Trace Cooper. She was a devoted grandmother to Annie Kirkpatrick, Lucy Kirkpatrick, John Henry Kirkpatrick III, Elisabeth Spalding, Carlee Holder, Colby Matheson, Hannah Bailey, Mehgan Hand, Destany Cooper, and Andra Cooper, and great-grandmother to John Parker and Hayes Holder.
She is also survived by her brother, William D. Mims (Mary Sue); and cousins, Nancy Crowder and Harry Walker, whom she lovingly considered her sister and brother. Lois leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, close friends, and neighbors who were blessed by her presence and kindness.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Embrace Alabama Kids (formerly United Methodist Children’s Home), a cause dear to Lois’s heart.
Lois Mims Adcock lived a life of quiet strength, anchored in faith and overflowing with love. Her memory will continue to be a blessing to all who knew her.
