Lorraine Maxwell Pugh, affectionately known as MaMa, age 94, passed away at her home, on Thursday December 12, 2019, surrounded by her family. She was born January 26, 1925 in Birmingham, Alabama. She graduated from Woodlawn High School. She started a family at a young age and was a homemaker until she went to work in 1962 as a bookkeeper at Kroger grocery store. She was a charter member of Fairview Baptist Church in 1956. Her husband, Harvey "Buddy", purchased Alabama Heating & Roofing Co. and they worked together to build a family business that is still in operation today. She was a member of Lakeside Baptist church. MaMa was an excellent seamstress, cook, mother, friend, and grandmother.
She is survived by her children, Lonnie Maxwell (Becky), Ronnie Maxwell (Betty), Vilinda Powell (John), and Gail Lindsey (Brian); grandchildren, Justin Durham (Amy), James Maxwell Jr. (Wendi), John Maxwell (Heather), John Michael Powell (Brooke), Brian Lindsey Jr. and Emily Lindsey; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Minnie Ogles; her husbands, Harvey L. Maxwell Jr. and Karl E. Pugh Sr.; 9 brothers and sisters.
A visitation will be held at Southern Heritage Funeral Home on December 16, 2019 at 12:30 P.M. followed by a Celebration of Life service, officiated by Dr. Richard Trader, at 2:00 P.M. A graveside service will be held at Highland Memorial Gardens, 3115 18th Ave N, Bessemer, Alabama 35020.
