Louis K Isaacson

March 10, 1929November 24, 2019

Home safe! Louis Kelly Isaacson, 90, is with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! He was adopted twice: once by Emil and Angeline Isaacson as a child in Mobile, AL., and the second time, he was adopted as a son of God when he committed his life to the Lord Jesus Christ. Lou is now reunited with his “sweet wife” of 67 years, Harriett, and his first grandson, Billy Buck III. So sweet! He loved all of his family so well including his son, Chris Isaacson and favorite daughter-in-law, Kathy, his daughter, Kelly Buck and favorite son-in-law, Billy. He was Pappy to his grandchildren, Riley Buck Phillips (Blake), Kathryn Lee Ware (Blake), Andy Buck (Teala), Landrum Isaacson Sitten (Chase), Jackson Isaacson, Emma Isaacson, Benjamin Isaacson, Miller Isaacson and Talmage Isaacson. And to his greats he often answered to “Happy,” Davy, Sadie, Holland and Caspian Phillips, Rigdon Ware, William Buck and Foster Sitten. He treasured his sister-in-law and her husband, Drue and Gary Shinn and his nieces, Terri Shinn, Dena Marvin (Steve) and Sara Marvin.

After serving in the Army, finishing his education and graduating from Howard College (Samford University), Lou began his career with the East End News as a journalist and then spent 38 years until his retirement with the Birmingham News. But his “fun” job was as an umpire for girls’ softball, referee for youth basketball and referee and coach for youth football. “Mr. Lou” finally retired from umpiring at age 80. He loved his community of friends at Briarwood Presbyterian Church and especially singing in the choir. He loved well and was loved in return. But this is what he would want you to know. The only thing that truly mattered in this world is that he had put his faith and trust in Jesus Christ, acknowledging that he could never be good enough to earn heaven according to the Bible, but accepting Jesus Christ’s death on the cross to pay for his sins and surrendering his life to follow Christ. He would plead with you to make that same choice as he has now seen by sight what he trusted in by faith!

A graveside service for the family was held on Monday, Nov. 25th. A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, Dec. 6, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. in the Briarwood Presbyterian Church Chapel. Fellowship with friends will begin at 1:00 p.m.
