Visitation: 1:30-3 p.m. Sat., Sept. 22, 2018, Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home, Pelham, AL, followed by A Celebration of Lynda's Life at 3 p.m. in the chapel. Burial, Southern Heritage Cemetery.
Lynda spent her early life in Brookhaven before leaving for Mississippi Southern College. There she met and married her Prince Charming, Eugene W. Murray III. They had two children, Rusty Murray and Melissa (Guardian 7 Michael) Watts, and later were blessed with “adopted” children, Nancy(Dan) Mahoney-Daniel and their children Meagan and Thomas; Christeen “Chrissy” (Syd) Spain-Jonathan and son Joshua Ahern; and their father, Richard Ahern. Plus more “adoptees” - Cathy, Beverly, Shelly Bird and Annette. The Lord blessed them with two grandchildren – Garnett Glover and Glyn Glover.
Gene served as an officer in the U.S. Army (ROTC), and his work took them to many places, including 15 years in Meridian, MS. They moved to Birmingham, AL in 1975 and stayed there through their lifetime. Along the way were many friends and experiences, the WARM group and the “Lunch Bunch” to name a few.
Lynda served her community through the Meridian Symphony Board, Museum Board of Art, Lamar School Board, Time and Tide Literary Club, and the Samford Legacy League. She and Gene served as youth leaders at Poplar Springs Baptist Church and Sunday School teachers at Shades Mountain Baptist Church and Green Valley Baptist.
Lynda, however, had two main “passions.” The first one was her family! Their “all for one and one for all” approach delighted her heart. They shared many Spirit-filled hours that took them through “thick and thin.” Love was their household theme!
Lynda's second passion was teaching Sunday School! She was affectionately known as the “minister of hugs.” Opening God's Word was the “gas in her tank” for some 50 years. She said we need to “bathe in” and memorize scripture to take us through “special events” and “trying times.”
Lynda was predeceased by two siblings, Norma (Albert Sydney) Hartman of Brookhaven and Jay (Jo) Hedgepeth of Jackson, MS.
