PURSER, LYNN GUTHRIE, passed peacefully on September 13, 2012. She was born in Atlanta, GA on October 14, 1958 to Fain and Edith Guthrie, and grew up in Tuscaloosa and, later, Birmingham, AL. She attended Berry High School and graduated from the University of Alabama. Those of us who knew Lynn remember her compassion and how she unselfishly gave her time and energy to others. The strength of her soul showed as gentleness, warmth and acceptance that was so comforting. Lynn was a nurturing mother to her daughter Molly, who was the love of her life. Lynn's personality led her to a lifelong career in education. After obtaining her Master's Degree in 1995, she established herself as a cherished part of Oak Mountain Elementary School's Special Education program. Lynn became part of the lives of many families with special children who were dear to her heart. Because of Lynn's significant contribution, she was voted Teacher of the Year in 1999 by her colleagues. Lynn was a passionate sports fan and loved reading and spending time with her nieces and nephews. She was committed to her church family at Valleydale Baptist, Birmingham. Her relationship with Christ and His unfailing love served as a foundation for her, her husband Mark, and Molly. Lynn was an inspiration to many and she will be missed. Lynn is survived by her husband Mark, her daughter Molly, and siblings Bart, Steve and Marc Guthrie. Visitation will be Monday, September 17, 2012 from 3 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. at Valleydale Baptist Church, immediately followed by the service celebrating Lynn's life. The private committal service will be later at Southern Heritage Cemetery in Pelham, AL. The family requests that remembrances be made in Lynn Purser's name through the Susan G. Komen Foundation at www.komenncalabama.org.
