

Margaret Ann Martin Box of Birmingham, Alabama passed away Friday, April 20, 2011 at the age of 81. Mrs. Box was born in Fairfield, Alabama on October 8, 1930. She was a member of Central Park Baptist Church in Birmingham.
Mrs. Box was a graduate of Fairfield High School and was an active member of the Fairfield High School Alumni Association throughout her life. She began her career at the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce where she enthusiastically shared her passion for her hometown.
Mrs. Box enjoyed guiding young people and carried this devotion into her work. She was employed as a Counseling Assistant at Ensley High School. She also worked with Junior Achievement to develop a program with the Birmingham Trust National Bank to assist students in learning personal finance. Mrs. Box served many years as the Director of Preschool and Children’s programs at Central Park Baptist Church, where she found great joy in encouraging the Christian growth of her students.
Mrs. Box is preceded in death by her parents, Fred Novell Martin and Ada Barnard Martin; husbands, Donald Leigh Martin and Stuart Jennings Box; sister, Mary Sue Martin Jayne, and son, Donald Leigh Martin, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Jo Ann Martin Morgan (Danny) of Owens Cross Roads, Alabama; sons Michael David Martin and William Fred Martin (Liz) of Birmingham; brother Charles Lee Martin (Lucille) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and daughters-in-law, Nancy Martin and Barbara Martin of Birmingham. She was the beloved grandmother of ten grandchildren, Kristin Martin Russell (Jeremy), Julie Ann Morgan, Lisa Morgan Hawkins (Sean), Jennifer Martin Holcomb (Kenneth), Daniel Taylor Morgan, Lindsey Leigh Martin, Michael David Martin, Jr., Melissa Elizabeth Martin, Christopher William Martin, and Madeline Elizabeth Martin. She was also blessed with four great-grandchildren and filled a special role in the lives of her many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Box will be remembered for her amazing devotion to her family, to her friends, and to the Lord. Her courage, strength and never-ending Christian faith were inspirational to all who knew her. To her family, she epitomized the virtuous woman of Proverbs 31:1-31.
Services will be held at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama on Monday, April 23, 2012 at 1:00 PM. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Central Park Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama.
