
July 2, 1929 - Jan. 26, 2015 Lathem, Margaret Erwin Jones, of Alabaster passed away on January 26, 2015. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick Pride Jones, Jr. and Margaret Fearn Jones and her sister, Mary Pride Fountain. Survivors include Erwin's three children, Becky Neuberger, (Peter), Margaret Irby, (James), and Don Lathem, Jr., (Gina); six grandchildren, Andrew and Scott Neuberger, Erwin Harper, and Zack, Landon, and Savannah Lathem, and Erwin's loving care givers, (Hearts of Compassion). Erwin attended Phillip's High School and went on to graduate from The University of Alabama. After graduation she was employed by the University of Alabama Birmingham. She married Donald N. Lathem, Sr. on August 20, 1954 and moved to Alabaster where she and Don raised their three children in a wonderful and loving home. Her contribution to bettering children's lives was most important to her. Smile Train, an organization which restores cleft palates for young children, was among her favorites. Erwin supported Kids First, a local program which meets the needs of young children after school. She supported the Humane Society as well. Erwin volunteered for the Meals on Wheels ministry for many years. She and Don, her husband, funded a scholarship at the University of Alabama. She was a member of the Denny Society, The Vestavia Country Club, and The Club. A memorial to Erwin will be held at The First United Methodist Church in Alabaster on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at 11:00am. The family will receive friends from 10:15am to 11:00am prior to the memorial service. An internment will follow the service at Elliottsville Cemetary.
