Marilyn Steele Becks, age 69, of Sterrett, AL, and formerly of Enterprise, AL, passed away Tuesday morning, January 31, 2017. She was born September 29, 1947 in Tallassee, AL to Wilbur Osborne Steele and Trixie Lamar Steele.
Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, AL, immediately followed by A Celebration of Marilyn's Life at the funeral home's chapel at 11 a.m. Saturday. Dr. Dan Ireland and Dr. William Anderson will officiate.
The graveside service will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 5, 2017 at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Aberdeen, MS.
Marilyn was a loving wife for 47 years, and a mother, aunt, and grandmother whose strength was from her trust and dependence on the Lord Jesus Christ since her early childhood. As the wife of her Minister of Music husband Roger, she was always active in churches they served as a Sunday School teacher, Children's Choir director, choir member, and soloist. She also participated in mission projects in the United States and many foreign countries.
Marilyn's special love was for her two sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and his wife Ann, and Chad and his wife Kristi; her two grandsons, Rene' and Charles; and her granddaughter, sweet Juliette! Marilyn was the consummate Proverbs 31 example!
In addition to her husband, two sons and daughters-in-law, and grandchildren, Marilyn is survived by two brothers, James Wilbur Steele (Sandra) and John Thomas Steele; aunt, Glenda Steele Harris (Elmer); uncle, Berkley H. Steele (Dottie); several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many special friends.
After graduating in 1965 from Coffee County (Alabama) High School, Marilyn earned her undergraduate degree in Business at Florence State University in 1969. Her employments as a teacher and an administrative assistant were at the Tennessee Valley Authority in Muscle Shoals, AL, Fort Rucker Aviation Base in Enterprise, AL, the Social Security Administration in Louisville, KY, the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL, Pinellas County School Board in Clearwater, FL, and most recently at Alabama Baptist Childen's Homes & Family Ministries in Birmingham, AL.
