Marilyn Jean Sullivan Place, 75, of Birmingham, Ala., and formerly of Warehouse Point, Conn., passed away on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 surrounded by family and friends. She was a devoted spouse, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
"Nana" enjoyed spending time with her family, visiting Cape Cod and other New England beaches, cooking, crocheting, and embroidering.
She was preceded in death by her father, Morris Sullivan; her mother, Olive Lees Sullivan Larson; one son, Mark Place; and one brother, Morris Sullivan.
Survivors include Marilyn Jean's high school sweetheart and husband of 58 years, James R. Place; two daughters, Darlene Place Malinoski (Stephen) and Pamela Place (Kristy); one son, David Place (Suzanne); grandchildren, Stephen Malinoski (Megan), Sarah Malinoski McIntyre (William), Andrew Malinoski, Kayla Place, Raymond Place, Elizabeth Malinoski, Gabriella Place, and Amelia Place; one great-grandchild, William McIntyre; and sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, and nephew.
The family will greet friends from 5-6 p.m. on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama, immediately followed by A Celebration of Marilyn Jean's Life at 6 p.m. at Ridout's Southern Heritage Chapel, Pelham.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Heart Association.
