Mark Cole Rogers

Born August 7th, 1951, in Hobbs, New Mexico, to Elba (Pat) Gaines Rogers and Margaret York Rogers, Mark was the middle sibling of older brother, David, and younger sister, Julie Beth.

Mark moved with his family to Midland, Texas in his youth. He participated in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, earning the rank of Eagle Scout. After graduating from Robert E. Lee High School, he went on to Texas Tech University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering in 1974. Mark began his time in the work force in Houston, Texas, with a career that took him to different corners of the United States, as well as Japan and Saudi Arabia.

In 1977, Mark met Rachel Hollinger in Baytown, Texas, while participating in a scuba diving class. They wed May 26th, 1979, in Camden, Alabama and were married for 47 years. Their marriage was based on love, faith, and family. They shared many adventures, taking them across six continents.

Mark and Rachel raised their two sons, Chris and Matthew, in Alabama after moving to Hoover in 1988. After decades of working in the Hoover area, Mark and Rachel enjoyed retired life supporting their children’s careers and enjoying the company of their grandchildren.

Mark was well known for developing rich friendships wherever he went and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He was a member of Christ Church Birmingham, serving in various volunteer positions throughout his time there. He served as chairman of trustees, chair of the staff parish committee, and the chairman of the Troop 5 Boy Scout committee. He also served as a youth Sunday school teacher. During his younger years, he was passionate about being outdoors and participated in many different activities, such as running marathons, biking, and scuba diving. His friends and loved ones remember him for his humor, and his love of music, history, and reading.

Mark is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife, Rachel; his sons, Chris (Cheryl) and Matthew; his grandchildren, Colman and Chloe; his brother, David (Nancy); and his sister, Julie Bodnar (Loran).

A Celebration of Life will be held at Christ Church Birmingham on Wednesday August 19 at 11:00 am with visitation at 10:00.
