

"Butch" was born October 18, 1942 in Langdale, AL. The Boy Scouts played an important part in his childhood. Over the course of his time as a Scout, he achieved the level of Life Scout and earned the Order of the Arrow and God and Country awards.
Butch graduated from Valley High School in 1961. He attended Howard College in Birmingham, AL from 1961-1964 earning a degree in Physiology. He married his wife of 57 years, Carla, on September 20, 1964. In 1972, he earned a Ph.D in Cardiovascular Physiology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. After completing his Ph.D., he attended Medical School from July 1972 to February 1975 graduating Cum Laude.
Upon earning his Medical Degree, Dr. Boone started in the University of Alabama at Huntsville Family Medicine Residency Program attending from March 1975 to February 1978. He received his medical license from the State of Alabama in May 1976 and maintained it until the time of his death. He completed a Rural Preceptorship in Red Bay, AL from January 1, 1977 to February 28, 1977.
After completing residency requirements, he passed the American Board of Family Medicine exam. He became a Board Certified Family Medicine Physician and Fellow of American Academy of Family Physicians, and he maintained the status until the time of his death.
In 1978, he began his medical career in the Emergency Department of Shelby Medical Center. In 1980, he became Medical Director of Shelby Medical Center Emergency Department and Medical Director of Emergency Medical Services for Shelby County.
From 1985-1987, Dr. Boone was Medical Program Director for Health America in Montgomery, AL. In January 1987, he started in Family Practice with Carraway Methodist Medical Center. In 1989, he became Family Practice Residency Director and remained Director until Carraway’s closing on October 31, 2008.
After the closing of Carraway, he became a Professor in Family Practice at UAB from 2009-2012. In July 2012, he joined Norwood Clinic as a Family Physician and became a shareholder and remained affiliated with Norwood Clinic until his death.
Over a 20-year span, Dr. Boone defended physicians charged with medical malpractice as an expert witness on their behalf and never lost a case because the doctor did not breach the standard of care.
Dr. Boone was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Daisy Zeiger Boone; his father, Marshall Nolan Boone, Sr.; and many family and friends.
Dr. Boone is survived by his loving wife, Carla; his son, Jonathan (Jacklyn); daughter, Ashley Ames (Timothy); and grandchildren, Jackson (15), J.T. (13), Kayleigh (12), and Jett (7).
A Celebration of Life Service for Dr. Boone will be Saturday, June 25, 2022 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, AL. The family will receive visitors at 1 p.m. with the celebration service at 2 p.m.
