

Martha Naro-Pflasterer, 76 of Vestavia Hills, passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2018. Martha graduated from Phillips High School and was a model for Bea McLaughlin Talent and Modeling. She worked at U.S. Steel before retiring, after 17 years, from Brookwood Hospital. She was a member of Shades Valley Presbyterian Church where she was active in the choir and chancel committees. Martha was a lover of music, singing and flowers. She was also an avid antique collector and conducted estate sales throughout the Birmingham area. She also had the antique store “Accumulations.”
Mrs. Naro-Pflasterer is preceded in death by her parents, Othni Alva Mitchell and Sallie Mae Buttram; sisters, Sylvia Mitchell Moore (Lewis) and Rose Don Mitchell. She is survived by her loving husband, Jacob Pflasterer; daughter, Gianetta Naro Jones (Clint); step-children, John Pflasterer (Shirley) and Paula Burchanol (Ed); brothers, William “Bill” Mitchell (Diane) and John Mitchell (Saralyn); sister, Kay Umphrey (Tom); step-grandchildren, Nicholas Pflasterer, Blake Jones (Jennifer) and Amy Jones Booth (William); and six great grandchildren. Also left to cherish her memory are nieces and nephews, Dr. Heidi Umphrey (Kevin LaCasse), Thomas “Tommy” Umphrey, Elizabeth “Libby” Holmes (Phil), Billy Mitchell (Marlee) and Traci Mitchell Frazer; along with a host of other family members and friends.
The celebration of Martha’s life will be at 11am on Monday, February 12, 2018 at Shades Valley Presbyterian Church, with visitation beginning at 10am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shades Valley Presbyterian Church.
