

Martha Zellner Newman, 99, of Thorsby, Alabama and formerly of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away on May 15, 2025 surrounded by her family. She was born in Birmingham on December 24, 1925 and graduated from West End High School.
Martha was married to Thomas Oliver Newman on September 9, 1943. She was a Methodist her entire life and was an active member of Rocky Mount Methodist in Jemison, Alabama for the last 46 years. She had a busy life of raising children and also enjoyed camping, sewing, and crocheting. She also worked part-time for Brombergs in the 1940’s and again in the 1960’s.
Martha is survived by her children, Sharon (Jim) Black of Hoover, Alabama, Doris (John) Wortham of Jemison, Betty (Trip) Janney of Thorsby, and Tommy (Karen) Newman of Hoover; as well as a large host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Martha was predeceased by her parents, Alma Bessie Carmichael Zellner and James Otis Zellner; her siblings; and her husband, Oliver Newman.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 18, 2025 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama from 2-3 p.m., followed by the Service of Remembrance for Martha Newman at 3 p.m. at the funeral home, 475 Cahaba Valley Road, Pelham, AL 35124. Burial will be at Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham.
