Born September 8, 1931, Mary enjoyed a full life and good health and died in her sleep at age 94. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Thomas Richard Douglas. They were blessed to have four wonderful children, Alice Jane Douglas Palmer, Thomas Richard Douglas Jr., Carolyn Vance Douglas Friday, and John Graf Douglas. She also enjoyed the blessing of 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Mary was born in Nashville Tennessee, graduated from West High School and Vanderbilt University. She taught math in the Nashville Metro School system for 35 years. In 2016, she moved to Birmingham, Alabama to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Ken Friday. Mary joined Briarwood Presbyterian Church and was an active member in the Joyful Hearts Sunday School class. She loved attending church, listening to sermons, reading on various topics, and following Dodgers baseball. She also enjoyed working puzzles, watching movies based on true events, and family nights playing table games of any variety. She was very competitive. Mary touched everyone with her gentle spirit and infectious smile. Her life was well lived for her Savior.
A visitation will be held at Briarwood Presbyterian Church in the Chapel on August 22, 2026 from 10:00-11:00 am with a memorial service following at 11:00 am.
