Mary Jo is survived by her husband of almost 25 years, Henry Thies of Hoover; brother, Johnny L Howton of Hoover; niece, Amy Howton Stewart and husband Jeff Stewart; niece, Audra Howton Vaughn and husband Heath Vaughn; nephew, Mark Alan Howton and wife Cindy Howton; great nephews, Grayson and Cole Stewart; and other relatives and friends.
Mary Jo graduated from Shades Valley High School in 1962 and started working for the Jefferson County Dept. of Health, where she worked for 35 years. She completed her career in 2008 with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Dept.
Mary Jo attended Hunter Street Baptist Church and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution Society.
Visitation was 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama. The funeral service were at 11 a.m. Friday, March 31, 2017 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Chapel, Pelham. Burial was at Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham.
