

Mexie Ellen Abbott Morgan, born 1921 in Curry, AL, went to be with her Lord on Friday, October 11, 2013. She was a life-long resident of the Birmingham, AL area and attended Walker Jr. College. She went to work with Blue Cross Insurance Co. when it was Health Services Corp., and retired with 29 years of service.
Mexie was a devoted Christian active in many churches: Calvary Baptist, Sixty-Sixth Street Baptist, Helena Baptist, and Meadowbrook Baptist. She lived in Helena, AL, for 33 years before moving to the Danberry at Inverness retirement community three and one-half years ago.
Mrs. Morgan was pre-deceased by her parents, Bertie Wilson Abbott and James Marion Abbott; her husband of 60 years, Harold George Morgan; and four brothers, Marvin Abbott, Carson Abbott, Garlin Abbott, and Charles Abbott. Survivors include Mexie’s daughter, Linda Morgan Pugh; son, James Harold (Joan) Morgan; brothers, James Abbott and Eugene (Jimmye) Abbott; sisters, Mary Leonard and Jo (Bill) Gant; four grandchildren, Keith Edward (Teresah) Pugh, Lauri Ellen Pugh (Brian) Moore, James Harold (Angela) Morgan Jr., and Robert Scott Morgan; nine great-grandchildren, Natalie, Amber, and Allison Pugh, Morgan and Phillips Moore, Jack, Savannah, and Eva Grace Morgan, and Madison Goodwin; and several nieces, nephews, and devoted friends.
The family will receive friends Monday, October 14, 2013 from 12:30 p.m. until the 2 p.m. Memorial Service at Ridout’s Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, AL, immediately followed by the committal service and burial at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville, AL.
The family is extremely grateful to Dr. Guy Patterson, Dr. Richard Cox, and their staffs for the many years of loving care they gave Mexie.
