Mike Jones, 69, of Hoover, Alabama, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2019. He was born to Reuben and Mary Jones on August 15, 1950, in Montgomery, Alabama. Mike graduated from Auburn University and received a bachelor of science with a degree in electrical engineering. He began as a cooperative education student at Alabama Power Company, joining the company full time after graduation. He retired after 44 years of dedicated service.
He married Sandra on June 24, 1972. They began a life together first in Auburn and later in Montgomery near their families and made life-long friends through Dalraida Baptist Church. They later moved with their two children to Birmingham, where they established deep roots with precious friends at Lakeside Baptist Church.
He had a love for Auburn, and spent fall Saturdays surrounded with friends at tailgates. His interests were cooking, music, and spending time with his friends and family. He was always ready for a “grabbing a bite to eat” with those he loved. He served his churches teaching Sunday School for more than 40 years and as a dedicated deacon.
Later in life he was overjoyed to become “Puddin’” to four grandchildren, who became the light of his life.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Sandra; children Robin Evans (Christopher) and Adam Jones (Carrie); grandchildren, Noah and Miller Jones, Aubrey Kate and Rhys Evans; brother Ken Jones (Kim) and niece, Hope Jones.
Visitation will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 16, 2019, followed by a celebration of Mike’s life at Lakeside Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Southern Heritage Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in his honor to Lakeside Baptist Church.
