After completing high school in Montgomery, AL, Michael graduated from Auburn University at Montgomery with a degree in business.
Michael married his childhood friend, Linda Losole and began building their life together filled with love, laughter, and family. They welcomed their children, Corey Michael (Dec 1988) and Katie Ryane (Jan 1991) and lived together in joy and comfort in Alabaster, AL until Linda’s untimely passing in September of 2008 after over 20 years of marriage.
Michael was blessed again when another great woman, Celeste Irby, entered his life and they married in Mentone, AL in June of 2012. Her children, Sarah Elizabeth and Charles Keith completed their family of six, and their house was always filled with laughter, vibrancy, adventure, and love.
Michael was an incredible grandfather. “Mac Daddy” was dearly beloved by his grandsons who ran to him with big smiles and open arms. He built them bunk beds, wrestled until they were worn out, and taught them life lessons, but most importantly, unconditional love.
After Michael retired from FedEx in 2023 after 32 years at the company, he jumped into a dedicated life of service - to his friends, neighbors, and family he showed up to help with every project big or small. Michael was currently working at King’s Home, supporting and mentoring youth escaping abuse and homelessness.
Michael was also a man of deep Christian faith. Along with Linda, he was a very involved member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Alabaster. Recently, Michael rededicated his life to Christ through baptism at The Church of the Highlands, where he was an active member and, along with Celeste, led a small group discussion weekly.
Michael is survived by his wife Celeste McCormick, his children, Corey and Katie McCormick and Chuck and Sarah Shields, his grandsons Grady and Owen McCormick, and his brothers and sisters Dan and Brian McCormick, Peggy Dodson, Paula Hegger, Patty Huys, and Kelly Cumbie.
