After graduating from Dora High School, he attended Samford University (then known as Howard College). It was there where he met the love of his life, Carolyn Yeager, whom he married on July 29, 1961. He began his military career soon afterwards as an Air Force officer, during which he flew missions in Vietnam, worked on B52 Bombers, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, and found time to further achieve an MBA from GA College. After serving 28 years, he gave another 10 years to Northrop Grumman where he worked with the design team on the B-2 Stealth Bomber. After retirement, he and Carolyn made their way from California back home to the south, eventually settling in Alabama.
Mike loved to travel, but nothing brought him and Carolyn more joy than supporting Samford University. No matter where they lived or where the Bulldogs were playing, they made every effort to attend as many football and basketball games as possible. Their dedication to Samford was recognized in 2009 when they were honored as Alumni of the Year. Mike will be remembered by his family and friends for his unshakable faith; his complete love for and devotion to Carolyn, his family, and the Samford Bulldogs; his thoughtfulness, his intelligence, his lack of patience for bad drivers, his honesty, and his remarkable courage.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carolyn Robinson, and his brothers, Gerald Robinson and Timothy Sumner Robinson.
Mike is survived by his daughter, Michelle Robinson, his grandchildren, Holly Adkins, Rachael Frazer (Nicholas Frazer), his sister, Terah Sherer (Bob Sherer), his brother, Nelson Robinson (Connie Robinson), and his sisters-in-law, Martha Robinson and Jan Andrew Robinson.
A committal service will be held at Alabama National Cemetery at a later date.
