Mike Elmer McKenzie Jr.

Mike was born September 26, 1950 and was raised in Cullman, Alabama. He was a 1969 graduate of Vinemont High School and served four years on the Great Lakes in the U.S. Coast Guard. He then returned to Birmingham and worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier for 40 years. Mike’s life was filled with many happy years of coaching little league baseball, watching University of Alabama sports, playing golf, vacationing at the beach and Universal Studios, and babysitting his granddaughter.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Doris McKenzie; and brother, Tony McKenzie.

He is survived by his wife, Janet McKenzie; children, Jonathan, Griffin, and Bridgette; brothers, Billy (Sheila) McKenzie and David (Michele) McKenzie; sisters, Bonnie (Kerry) Goodwin and Sheila (Greg) Federer; and granddaughter, Ellie Quinn.

A celebration of Mike’s life will be held on Thursday, February 15 at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church at 1pm with visitation beginning at 12 noon. Interment will be Friday, February 16 at Alabama National Cemetery at 10:15am.
