Nancy Blackwell of Birmingham, Alabama went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, September 11, 2023. She was the beloved wife of 72 years of marriage to Paul Blackwell, who went to be with the Lord on April 20, 2023.
Nancy was born and raised in Birmingham and attended Ensley High School. She married Paul at 19 years of age and started her married life as an Army wife, traveling and living in Germany three times and living at various Army Posts all over the United States.
Nancy's love for the Lord was clear in her interactions with family, friends, and strangers. She was an active member of Metropolitan Church of God and considered her 35 years in attendance as her second family.
She loved her grandchildren, Kelly and Chris, with a passion. They could do no wrong! She also had a loving role, along with her husband Paul in helping raise their great-grandsons, Tanner, Christian, and Luke.
Many happy memories were spent with Dave, Sandy, and her grandchildren attending Auburn Football games, going to Bowl Games, and spending many wonderful times at their home at Lake Martin.
Living 10 houses down the street from Dave and Sandy has been a tremendous blessing as Nancy has taken part in so many activities - school events, car pool, school sports, band concerts, church activities, and being a supporting and positive role model in all of her children's lives.
Nancy is survived by her son, David Houston Blackwell (wife, Sandy); grandson, Christopher Houston Blackwell (wife, Alana); granddaughter, Kelly Blackwell Tortorice (husband, Tommy); and great-grandsons, Tanner Reed Blackwell, Christian Paul Blackwell, and Luke Thomas Tortorice.
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at Metropolitan Church, Birmingham from 9-10 a.m., followed by A Service of Remembrance for Nancy at 10 a.m. at the church, 2800 Metropolitan Way, Birmingham, AL 35243. The gravesite committal service will be at 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at Alabama National Cemetery, 3133 Highway 119 South, Montevallo, AL 35115.
